School of Life

Being 18 and having gone through a bone marrow transplant (sick since I was about 12), I have missed A LOT of school. I have constantly been asked, "so, what are you doing for school, what are your plans for the future, do you plan on going to college, do you home school, etc....". Those questions are always hard for me. Mainly because, honestly I loved school and had dreams of becoming a college gymnast. And that was taken away from me. I usually respond..." I'm going through the school of life!" And it couldn't be more true.

For a while I had gone to a couple of classes at Higley High my sophomore year, and did a couple of online classes. It was hard for me to keep up. Then the year of my transplant came, my Junior year, and I wasn't able to be at school at all. I was so so sick and I wasn't even able to keep up with my online studies and we figured my health was WAY more important than my schooling at the time. Little did we know I'd be in the hospital for 10 months and fighting for my life, literally. So, where does that leave me now? What would be my senior year...?

I am currently working towards my GED. And I am proud of myself. It's definitely not where I thought I would be at OR what I thought I would be working towards. But, It's what is working for me. It is really bittersweet to see all my friends getting closer to graduation and getting ready to receive their diplomas, because that was always my goal. That's every one's expectation I think. But I'm excited for them, and I'm excited for me. We all have different paths, and this is mine. Where all going through the school of life.

These pictures were taken by the AMAZING and talented Leavitt Wells. She's the coolest person ever and takes the raddest pics ever!! So hit her up for your photography needs: Seniors, family, concerts, etc..

  5. I can only say you are the most beautiful girl I have seen. I have read your Mom's posts and I have shed tears for you and you have been in my prayers constantly. You are amazing to go through what you are doing and giving hope for many others that are suffering with painful situations and as they read your posts they are encouraged they too can do this. I have great faith Heavenly Father has a plan for all of us and yours has been a hard one but I believe you are truly one of his chosen ones to show others what Faith can do. I love your Grandma, she is one of my very favorite people and I love your beautiful Mother and her great talent in writing that has brought hope to all of us. Bless you that the future will be brighter everyday and we will see more pictures of how beautiful you are.
Prayers for you and all your wonderful family

  8. I some how came across your Instagram not too long along and just read all of your blogs. I've been sick since I was 12. A few other things we've had in common. Just wanted to comment and say hang in there. I was on the same boat with school. It's frustrating when people ask those questions because you wanted something for yourself and yet weren't really giving the option to do it, if that makes sense. I did online from freshmen-junior year on and off when I could.. But being so so sick and in the hospital was just too much. It was stressful. Your health is far more important. I was so against a GED because I said it was a "good enough diploma" but I actually was able to make a speech at the graduation ceremony and said it meant "greater expectations desired". Doing the program wasn't the easiest. I had already passed every state test to graduate, but didn't have enough "classroom hours". So getting my GED was what was best for me. Yet seeing the classmates I grew up with since I was 4 graduate was really hard. but I spoke to a few colleges and they told me straight up "it's a piece of paper, GED and high school diploma are the same thing to us, just a piece of paper". I'm glad you've shared your story. I feel like I know you just from reading your post. Always here if you ever need a friend. I'm @littleemilyy on Instagram. God bless. ❤️

  9. Thank you for sharing. I have struggled with some mental health issues (severe anxiety) throughout high school, and it has put me behind in school and I am not on track for graduation and it is hard to watch my friends getting ready to graduate as well. I know my struggles are nothing compared to what your going through. I just want you to know what a positive influence on me you are.
